From the creative heritage of Konstantin Vasiliev, among more than 400 paintings, the canvas “Expectation” is rightly distinguished by the force of influence on the feelings of the viewer. The artwork was completed in 1976.
It appears to our eyes an elongated canvas framed by a wooden frame of a narrow window. A reliably repeated pattern of wood hints at a realistic genre of painting. Winter covered with snow the windowsill from the outside of the dwelling, painted glass with branched white patterns. The fire of a candle illuminates the face of a young beautiful girl.
In the depths of the room you can see only impenetrable darkness. Hope is young in her gaze, her soul languishes with the expectation of a fateful meeting with her beloved. Where is he now - one can only guess: he went to war or went to work, it is possible that he has not yet been met on the path of life. The girl left her relatives and friends, all the housework was done and boring, with a candlelight she melted the icy window and peered into the distance in anticipation of female happiness. Her eyes are sad, anxious, she is afraid not to wait for him, she looks pleadingly with beautiful bright eyes.
Vasiliev used contrasting combinations of colors. Light - snow and ice, a long braid of the heroine, bright fire, dark - a room behind and a window frame. Masterfully depicts the burning of a candle with a strong light emanating from it on the window and on the look of the expectant.
The artist Vasiliev earned fame as a master of folklore. By studying ancient epics and tales, he filled his own soul with knowledge of Slavic roots, their unprecedented strength of mind. This powerful energy is now lurking in all his paintings, forcing people to hear the hidden strings of their hearts and stir up in their memory vague knowledge of their historical homeland.
“Waiting” paints a pure image of a Russian beauty, with faith devoted waiting for her love.
