Description of Titian's painting “Mourning of Christ”

Before us is the deepest creation of Titian. The picture is striking with a special feeling and extraordinary wisdom. The canvas was completed by one of the painter's students after Titian died.

A niche is shown as a background. It is composed of stones that are hewn roughly enough. This design is incredibly crushing with its weight. It is framed by two statues. We see people who are overcome by one feeling. They mourn.

We see Mary. In her hands lies the body of Christ. The heroine resembles a statue. She is motionless, because her grief is immeasurable. Titian does not depict Christ at all as an ascetic, but as a real husband who was defeated in the struggle. The forces simply turned out to be unequal.

Looks at Christ. Old man. In all his pose and gaze, inexpressible sorrow is read. The hand of Magdalene is raised in despair. This gesture is like a frantic scream that pierces silence. We can feel the inexpressible despair that Maria seeks to convey through this movement. Her hair flutters. They resemble a kind of flash. Her robe stands out against the dark background of the picture. Another bright spot is the old man's red robe.

The face of the statue of Moses expresses grief and anger at the same time. His figure is illuminated by the grayish-blue radiance of the day, which is almost complete. Titian is a true master. He manages to convey immense grief: its depth and special beauty.

The artist with the help of skillfully selected colors and shades conveys the special mood of this canvas. The viewer is conveyed a certain sadness and sorrow. Titian's creation is as expressive and voluminous as possible. All the heroes are tangible.

The artist creates this masterpiece before death. This is a requiem that he devoted to all his beloved images. The Renaissance is already a thing of the past. The artist understands this and is sad.
