Nikolai Mikhailovich Karamzin was not only a legendary writer, a talented poet, an excellent translator, but also a great historian. He had a huge impact on the formation of the linguistic and literary culture of the country.

It was he who translated many of the works of William Shakespeare from English into Russian. He did this work very subtly, trying to maintain meaning and interesting speech turnovers. The most famous of his works was the novel "Poor Lisa", created by the author in 1792. Of course, such a person should be immortalized on canvas.

The artist who captured Karamzin was Tropinin. This man was a true master of his craft. He did not take a special part in the exhibitions, did not try to stick out his talent or loudly declare himself. However, his wide soul, humanity and ability to be a good friend made him an influential artist. In 1818, he was lucky to work on the painting "Portrait of N. Karamzin." The work is done on canvas with oil.

Karamzin is shown in close-up. Even the small details of his clothes are clearly distinguishable. His gaze is simultaneously full of warmth and severity. The painting is extremely accurate and realistic. In all appearances, Nikolai Mikhailovich reads his affiliation with the intelligentsia, a good upbringing and a high level of education. The background is painted in a neutral dark green tint. This allows you to focus on the writer.
