Speaking about Rubens and examining his works, most art historians are unable to restrain their admiring sighs. There is a boar, which is surrounded by hunters and hounds, ready to tear him to pieces at any moment; and Atalanta, who had tested her luck and had just fired her arrow to hit the target; and Meleager, who thrusts his spear into the evil beast; and the slain who lies next to the famous boar. Many Flemish artists tried their luck by drawing their own canvases on this motif, but nobody managed to do it better than Rubens.
